What Is the Lucence TripleRISK Test?

The Lucence TripleRISK test is a blood test that detects genetic mutations linked to higher risks of heart attack, stroke and leukaemia.

It works by detecting clonal haematopoiesis (CH), a type of age-related or lifestyle-related genetic change in blood cells, even if you currently feel well or healthy. Identifying these mutations early allows you to take preventive steps and manage your long-term health more effectively.

At healthscreening.sg, we offer the Lucence TripleRISK blood test at $2,616 NETT, inclusive of GST.

How Does the TripleRISK Test Work?

The TripleRISK test analyses your blood for clonal haematopoiesis mutations in 11 genes commonly associated with ageing and long-term lifestyle factors such as smoking, poor diet and ongoing stress. The genes screened are:

ASXL1, DNMT3A, JAK2, PPM1D, FLT3, IDH2, RUNX1, SF3B1, TET2, TP53, SRSF2.

By measuring the presence and proportion of these mutations, the test calculates your personalised risk score for developing:

Who Should Consider the TripleRISK Test?

The TripleRISK test is suitable for adults between 40 and 79 years old who may have personal or family risk factors for cardiovascular or blood-related conditions. You may wish to consider this test if you:

  1. Have cardiovascular risks such as high blood pressure, diabetes, raised cholesterol levels or a smoking history
  2. Have experienced a previous heart attack or stroke
  3. Have close relatives with leukaemia, myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS), or sudden cardiovascular events
  4. Have undergone chemotherapy or radiation therapy in the past

This test is not recommended if you have recently received a blood transfusion (within the past two weeks) or have had an allogeneic bone marrow transplant. Speak with a doctor first to confirm if the test is suitable for your situation.

What Happens After You Receive the Results?

The TripleRISK test does not provide a diagnosis but offers valuable insight into your future health risks, guiding next steps in prevention and monitoring. Based on your results, your doctor may suggest:

  • More frequent health checks and follow-up tests such as ECG, echocardiogram or full blood count
  • Lifestyle adjustments including stopping smoking, maintaining a healthy weight, adopting a balanced diet and engaging in regular exercise
  • Medical management of existing conditions such as hypertension or diabetes

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What other tests do you provide from Lucence?

At healthscreening.sg, we also provide the LucenceINSIGHT liquid biopsy test, which screens for up to 50 different types of cancer beyond the TripleRISK test. These range from focused panels covering five cancers to more comprehensive multi-cancer options. The most suitable test depends on your individual health background, risk profile and screening objectives. Contact us for more information or to book a consultation.

Why should I do the TripleRISK test?

The TripleRISK test evaluates your future risk of heart attack, stroke and leukaemia by identifying clonal haematopoiesis mutations in the blood. These mutations are more common with age and may reveal hidden risks not detected by standard health checks. The test is particularly relevant for people aged 40 to 79 and for those with a personal or family history of cardiovascular or blood-related illnesses.

Is the TripleRISK test covered by insurance or Medisave in Singapore?

The TripleRISK test is not MediSave-claimable and is usually not included under standard health insurance coverage in Singapore. However, depending on your insurer, policy type or corporate healthcare plan, some reimbursement may be possible. It is best to confirm directly with your insurance provider.

Can the TripleRISK test be combined with other health screenings?

Yes, at healthscreening.sg, the TripleRISK test can be performed alongside other health screening packages, including cardiovascular, cancer-related or general health assessments. It may also be combined with additional tests such as blood work, imaging scans or ECGs for a more complete evaluation. Consult with our doctors, who can advise on which additional tests are most relevant for you.

Is fasting required before the TripleRISK blood test?

Fasting is not required for the TripleRISK blood test, but it is recommended to avoid heavy meals for at least 4 hours before your appointment to help maintain sample quality. If you are scheduled for other fasting blood tests on the same day, your doctor may advise fasting to cover all tests together. Always follow the preparation instructions given by our clinic and check with us if you are uncertain.

How is the TripleRISK test different from routine blood tests or cholesterol screening?

The TripleRISK test is a genetic blood test that detects clonal haematopoiesis mutations linked to heart attack, stroke and leukaemia. In contrast, routine blood tests and cholesterol checks focus on general markers such as blood counts, sugar levels or cholesterol. TripleRISK reveals genetic changes that standard tests do not capture, providing additional insight into long-term health risks.

Can I do the TripleRISK test if I have no symptoms or family history?

Yes, the TripleRISK test may still be relevant even if you have no symptoms or family history, as clonal mutations can appear gradually with age without any warning signs. The test is designed for proactive risk assessment rather than diagnosis. If you are unsure, consult our doctors who can advise whether it is beneficial based on your personal health profile.

How often should I repeat the TripleRISK test if I have an elevated score?

If your TripleRISK results show elevated risk, your doctor may suggest repeating the test either yearly or once every few years, depending on your risk category and overall health context. Repeating the test helps track changes in mutation levels over time and guides ongoing health planning.

Is the TripleRISK test suitable for individuals under the age of 40?

The test is generally recommended for adults aged 40 to 79, as clonal haematopoiesis becomes increasingly common with age. While it is possible to carry out the test earlier, its clinical usefulness in younger adults is often limited. If you are unsure, consult our doctors to help determine if early testing is appropriate for you.

What does a high-risk TripleRISK score mean for long-term health planning?

A high-risk score indicates a significantly increased likelihood of developing cardiovascular disease or leukaemia in the future due to the presence of clonal mutations. This does not mean disease is certain, but it highlights the importance of closer follow-up, lifestyle adjustments and additional screening. Based on your test results, your doctor will provide a tailored plan according to your overall health status.

Can the test be done at home with a mobile blood draw service?

Yes, at healthscreening.sg, we offer a mobile blood draw service for the TripleRISK test for patients who prefer home-based collection. This service is available at an additional fee of $54.50 per location and can accommodate groups of up to five people. Please contact our clinic to check availability and arrange a home appointment.
